This is a question we get asked all the time. I’m sure everyone would like to know what it really takes to maintain a community to high horticultural standards.
There are several questions to consider when searching for someone to maintain your community’s landscape:
- What level of service are you looking for?
- Are you looking for a basic service, resort-style maintenance, or are you maintaining a botanical garden?
- A year from now, what would you like your community to look like? How about 3 years?
- Are you looking to improve the value of the homes in your community?
- Do you have a plan of where you should invest for the biggest return on your landscaping budget?
Each type of service comes at a different cost. Let’s take a look at the pricing for the three different types of services we offer at Forever Green Landscape Service.
Basic Landscape Maintenance
This maintenance plan is the most popular choice by many of the communities in South Florida. Basic landscape maintenance plans are great programs that will take care of all the general landscape maintenance tasks required to maintain a community’s landscaping. If you have a community of single-family homes and some community common spaces, you should expect to pay about $50-$200 per home per month for a basic landscaping maintenance program. This would include your turfgrass maintenance, a basic pruning program, and may include some irrigation maintenance and a fertilization/pest/weed control program.
Basic landscape maintenance packages will include servicing all the turfgrass which includes:
- Mowing of the turfgrass
- Edging all the hard and soft edges
- Line trimming all the hard and soft edges
- Fences and lake banks
- Blowing off all the hard surfaces.
This service will also include a basic pruning package which includes power shearing all the shrubs and bushes, removing dead palm fronds on small palms. The basic landscape maintenance plan may also include an irrigation maintenance plan and a pest and weed control program.
Resort Style Landscape Maintenance
If you want to improve the overall look of your community, you may opt to go for a resort package. The resort package would be the next step up from the basic program which offers the turfgrass maintenance services. The major difference between the basic program and the resort maintenance program is the pruning standards. Within the resort package, there is less power shearing of the shrubs and bushes which makes the plant material look better and healthier. However, the drawback is this process is much more labor-intensive and requires a substantial amount of training. If you’re looking for a more natural look and wanting your community to stand out, then resort maintenance is something you should consider.
Resort-style landscape maintenance is another popular choice for some of the affluent communities throughout South Florida. High visibility properties in the image business always want their properties to appear picture-perfect. Resorts have more community space such as community clubhouses and pool areas that need constant care, therefore, you should expect to pay about $150-$400 per home, per month. The resort-style landscape maintenance program would include the basic services previously mentioned in addition to a fertilization/pest/weed control program plus an irrigation maintenance program.
Botanical Garden Maintenance
If you are looking for even higher standards, then look no further than a botanical garden. Maintaining a botanical garden is not only labor and capital intensive, but can really make your property stand out in any community. The major difference of this plan from the others is that plant material will be overseen by an onsite horticulturist as well as onsite staff to attend to the community’s gardens daily. Botanical garden maintenance may include special pruning needs, fertilization, pest control, and watering requirements. The community would still require the routine general maintenance described in the programs above.
Maintaining your community to the standards of a botanical garden is very costly and labor-intensive. Botanical garden maintenance is white glove landscape care with all the small details considered. If you’ve ever been to Disney World, then you have seen what a botanical garden looks like. The gardens are kept in impeccable order and every detail is looked after. Seasonal colors are changed on a bimonthly or quarterly basis.
With this plan, all plants and turf are treated for pests and weeds on a continuous program. Additionally, proper fertilization and watering standards are kept. Usually, there is an on-staff horticulturist or, at the very least, an on-call horticulturist who visits the property monthly and sets the property’s guidelines and which tasks to complete. The cost to maintain these types of communities is not an easy task. I would say you could expect to pay about $400+ per home, per month.
